I distinctly remember reading about a retired British Army officer repelling a home invasion robbery with his. That is understating it. The criminal is no longer with us. And no, for at least that instance, self-defense was not considered a prosecutable offense.
I have absolutely no doubt that if I pointed it at someone too closely, they would suffer terribly. The point is wicked sharp - something that caused many an officer on parade to donate a few drops of blood for King/Queen and Country. When returning the blade to scabbard, they had to look straight ahead, making for the occasional puncture wound on the left index finger, even with leather gloves on!
