Strop Destruction... really?

I have been holding off responding to see how I did with my new Ambrose horsehide strop because to tell you the truth I was not so much afraid that I as a beginner long ago now was likely to destroy my strop as I was that I would now, too!

Luckily, I have not hurt this one at all. Fantastic strop by the way. I just love the draw and that may help.

Anyway, I had a really cheap strop, which I am not convinced did not work fine. i put lots of nicks in it. Then I got a nice Tony Miller latigo. I used the practice strop that came with it for quite awhile. I am not sure when I did it but I managed to put a pretty good cut in the TM and it has any number of nicks. So, not destroyed, but somewhat damaged.

I guess my experience is that at this point I am much less likely to damage a strop, but I really would advise a newcomer to go with a practice strop or a cheaper one for a long time. Longer than I did! You will never be totally safe no matter what you do!
