Monday SOTD

Took yesterdays Flea Market find out for a spin. Cleaned up nice and the brassing on it is beautyful... what I wasn't ready for is the amount of blade feel that this has. I might have to train on this again... couldn't find the right angle. Still got a good shave... just a little rougher that I would have liked, but thats on me...

Razor: Everready OC
Blade: Ted Pella PTFE (6)
Brush: Stirling 26mm Finest Badger
Soap: Stirling Gentleman
AS: Witchhazel / SkinBracer / Balea ASB

If anybody knows more about the razor... Input would be great. Its says on the bottom: Pat. March 24/14 Made in USA and inside American Safety Razor Co. Inc. New York.

Thanks Gentlemen and hope everybody has a good evening!!

It's an Ever-Ready 1914. I have one but haven't used it yet. The 1914 has a rep for being somewhat aggressive. I do have an Ever-Ready 1924 Shovelhead, which, I've read, is about the same in aggression as the 1914. I have used the 1924. A shallow angle, with the cap almost touching the cheek is best for these SEs. Just take it easy. In my week of SE shaves a while back I didn't have any real problems with them AND I was using them for the first time. It just takes a bit of practice. Many people swear by them.

Well, the week has certainly started off with some exceptional photos and text posts. Thank you, gentlemen.

I'm sure, as the week progresses, we will be dazzled each day by a flood of beautiful pictures and informative posts.

Thanks Ron, I want to get some favorites in with being next for the soap sample pass around box. And also get some more use of my straight razors!

October 24 - was a strange day.
shave cream: Nivea Originals - which I disliked for it's scummy feel and relative lack of scent the first time. It just needed more water to make a creamy kind of lather.
brush: a boar brush of unknown origin, with red and white cracked & flaking paint job. I didn't want to use any of my good brushes with the Nivea.
mug: a Coldplay merch mug, commemorating "The Singles 1999-2006" album. More of a soup mug, the perfect size for bowl lathering, white with black interior and a handle big enough for a thumb.
razor: New Style head on a fat Tech handle.
blade: 2nd use of an Astra SP
post: Omega Alum Stick, cold water rinse, Mennen Skin Bracer.

Result: BBS, and somewhat less sting than usual from the post-shave products.

Ah. Here's a mug just like mine:

I have no idea what they sound like. Probably over-produced commercial pseudo-Indie junk.
But the mug was only $1.

Ahhh...the finicky 1914! I have one and it is scary! Try taping the spine of the blade to reduce chatter shimming does the same thing. I did this and tamed it somewhat ;)
