Stupid question from a non-knifemaker, but how the heck do they do the spine on the handle? I take it the two additional pins in the middle at either end of the handle hold it all together? (given that the Opinel's blade pin is underneath the locking ring)

They look gorgeous anyway.

Yes, the spine is sandwiched in the scales, then those pins go through and are peened to hold it all together. Epoxy will often be used as well.
