What's new

Favorite James Bond movie? Favorite Bond/Bond Girl?

Despite my screen name, I'd have to go with Goldfinger. Grew up in the Brosnan era. First Bond movie I had seen was Goldeneye, also grew up playing the N64 game. Also would have to go with Christmas Jones (Denise Richards).

Maryam d'Abo wrote a book on the Bond girls: "Bond girls are forever".

Favourite Bond actor? Difficult one. Before Craig, I would have said Connery. Now I am not so sure.

Favourite Bond person? Baron Samedi, no doubt. Even if the movie is only average, in my opinion (any movie with Sherrif Pepper in it seems doomed).

I like the Bond films that feature a safety razor, Goldfinger.

Yes, a nice Gillette Slim adjustable.
You could probably also include Skyfall (Moneypenny shaves Craig-Bond with a straight) and Live and Let Die where Moore-Bond shaves with an Schick Injector.

All you James Bond fans, did you know there is a conspiracy theory that the Sean Connery character in the movie The Rock was really James Bond. British national, caught spying in the U.S. British government totally disavows him. Caught at Canadian border after stealing some microfilm from the FBI and never reveals it's location. Think about it.

Movie: Goldfinger followed by Casio Royale
Bond: Sean Connery with Daniel Craig gaining with each new movie he makes
Bond Girl: Tiffany Case, there is a reason she was the first American Bond girl, beautiful, sexy, intelligent
Best M: Judi Dench has been my favorite actor in the role of "M". I was disappointed when she was killed off but look forward to seeing Ralph Fiennes continuing in the role.
Best Q: Desmond Llewelyn, highly underrated to the franchise IMO, the most consistence character though out the years and for some of the films the only redeeming factor.
Best Moneypenny: Samantha Bond, a lady who reminds us that flirting can be either an art form enjoyed by both parties or " sexual harassment ".

There's a conspiracy theory that Sean Connery never really stopped "playing bond" for several decades after he stopped making Bond films.

FRWL is my all time favorite Bond movie and book. Sean Connery is my favorite Bond but I have to say that Rosamund Pike as Miranda Frost is my favorite Bond Girl.
Of course, Llewelyn is Q, and even a fine actor like Wishaw or a great personality like Cleese can replace him
Best M is Bernard Lee, although I can't wait to see what Fiennes does with this.
Best Moneypenny is Maxwell (although Caroline Bliss was very hot imo)
Worst Bond was Lazenby (the movie was good, the Bond was not)
Worst M was Robert Brown
I really don't have a Moneypenny I dislike seeing in that role, they're all really good.
Worst Bond Movie was TMWTGG mainly because it had the worst Bond girl with Britt.

Yes, and it makes perfect sense too. I've always included The Rock as the second unofficial serious Bond movie.

I see a lot of comments about Craig being closer to Flemings Bond, but I've always thought Dalton had that nailed down (and probably the best actor of the bunch).

I can see that -- he does have the look and some of the cold demeanor -- but unfortunately his movies had terrible scripts and supporting actors/bond girls. Craig's Bond, while not the look of Fleming's characterization, has the ice-cold, emotionless killer aspect in spades. He comes across as much more cold blooded than Dalton. Craig's Bond personality, I think, is the closest to Fleming's idea.

It certainly helped that they hit it out of the park with Casino Royale -- great script, great actors, great direction and editing. Skyfall was good -- excellent script, but it didn't ever "gel" the way CR did. Quantum of Solace is best ignored -- decent actors and Bond girls, but the direction was atrocious. Whoever thought that shaky-cam action sequences belonged in Bond film should be made to watch the 1967 version of Casino Royale over and over until their eyes bleed.
I have great hope for Spectre.

...

Well, at least some else acknowledged Lazenby in this thread. I agree he wasn't particularly good. Telly Savalas blew Lazenby away on screen.

I'm still holding up Diana Rigg as the hottest Bond girl. No skin, no suggestive behavior, but enough panache to capture Bond. Perfect casting.

Movie: The Living Daylights and Casino Royale
Bond: Daniel Craig and Timothy Dalton...Growing up I loved the two Dalton films. Having read the books, Dalton's performance reminded me of how Fleming wrote Bond....Craig even more so now....
Bond Girl: Eva Green as Vesper in Casino Royale

The new Bond flick coming out looks pretty amazing. I can't wait to see what they come up with. It will be interesting to see what the story line is about, since it doesn't follow any of the Ian Flemming books. Side note - Did you know that they're out of books to base the movie off of? So any Bond movie from here on out will be completely new material. Not that all the previous Bond flicks actually adhered to the contents of the books....

Favorite Bond: Sean Connery
Best movie: From Russia With Love
Favorite Bond girl ?? Seriously who can answer that ?
Favorite Villain: Famke Janssen

They are out of original Bond novels by Ian Fleming. Fleming wrote 12 novels (plus short stories, which is where many of the later titles -- but not plotlines -- come from, like "Quantum of Solace")
However, John Gardner and Raymond Benson each wrote a slew of them. Plus there have been a few single book authors. I think the current total is somewhere around 35 books. It will be interesting to see if they start delving into the Gardner books. As I remember they weren't too bad -- except Gardener had Bond driving a Saab (f all things!) for a while. I've never read any of the Benson versions.

Well, resurrection time since we're about 2 months away from the proposed release date of the next official Bond movie No Time To Die. I've waited a while to see this (almost as much as I did for Goldeneye). Let's hope it is as satisfying an end to the waiting as Goldeneye.
