Anybody know what this little beauty is?

This is a handle that I'm reknotting for a friend of a friend. He's used it for years and its knot finally fell out.

I beleive it to be tortoise shell. It's very small (41mm tall, 18mm knot). You can faintly make out where the "Harrods" logo used to be.

Does anybody know who made these for Harrods and when?

I don't know what it is but it looks to be horn. I have a Lord Chesterfield that looks similar to it.

I'd vote for horn, also. I don't believe tortoise shell is thick enough for a turned brush handle.

I'm thinking it is not horn, maybe do a hot pin test, in the hole and let us know what it smells like. I've never seen real tortoise shell to know.

I doesn't have the smell of a synthetic when sanded. I agree that it's pretty thick for tortoise but it has the color...
