Old Type: To shim or not to shim?

Can anyone throw a little more light on the Improved New in regard to blade alignment issues and aggressiveness? I believe the Improved New head is a beefed up version of the Old.

I have a Goodwill New that I find tricky to get the blade aligned properly in. The posts on the Old & Improved New look easy to use but I am a little leery of alignment issues.

The Goodwill is MUCH easier to mis-align than either the old style or the NEW. I have no idea what Gillette was thinking with blade alignment on the Goodwill....

Talking about shimming, is this a sort of official shim supplied and manufactured by a razor or blade manufacturer? It's vintage for sure.
