FB sucks at a lot of things. I'm on it mainly to keep up with family & friends I don't see often. And, if course to look at cat & dog pictures.
I belong to 2 groups that I actually participate in (GRAMMAR NAZI ALERT), The Librarianologist, about, as you may have guessed, Libraries, both personal & public/scholastic etc. (EDIT and bookstores), and Lost in Books, a discussion group for readers & book collectors.
The 1st is an open group, but it is very well moderated and very friendly. It has about 450,000 members.
The 2nd is closed group started by one of the Admins of the 1st. It has something over 2,000 members. It is a little friendlier than the 1st, but not a whole lot. Maybe the word I'm looking for is chummier.
My point being that it all depends on the owners/administrators of the group. And, it is usually very easy to drop the group.
And, yes FB does indeed suck.
