Product Info

Spyderco Ultra Fine

Spyderco Ultra Fine Hone

A white, artificial, ceramic honing stone measuring 2"x8" and traditionally housed in a black polymer case. Spyderco Ultra Fines (or UF) are designed to be used without water or lubrication. While not shipping with a traditional grit rating, the consensus of the shaving community considers it a finishing or touch-up hone comparable to a 10k or 12k stone. Constructed out of aluminum oxide ("synthetic sapphire"), Spyderco UF's are exceedingly hard and should never require lapping or maintenance beyond cleaning with a powdered cleanser.

Grit Discussion

Spyderco Fine

Spyderco Ultra Fine Hone

A white, artificial, ceramic honing stone measuring 2"x8" and traditionally housed in a light blue polymer case. Spyderco Fines are designed to be used without water or lubrication. While not shipping with a traditional grit rating, the consensus of the shaving community considers it comparable to an 8k stone. Constructed out of aluminum oxide ("synthetic sapphire"), Spyderco Fines are exceedingly hard and should never require lapping or maintenance beyond cleaning with a powdered cleanser.

According to some, the difference between a Spyderco Ultra Fine and Fine is merely the finish of the stone and not the material the stone is constructed of.

Spyderco Medium

Spyderco Ultra Fine Hone

A neutral-brown/grey colored, artificial, ceramic honing stone measuring 2"x8" and traditionally housed in a vibrant blue polymer case. Spyderco Mediums, like the Fine and Ultra Fine are designed to be used without water or lubrication. While not shipping with a traditional grit rating, the consensus of the shaving community considers it comparable to a 3k or 4k stone. Constructed out of aluminum oxide ("synthetic sapphire"), Spyderco Mediums are not as durable as the Fine and Ultra Fine stones and are expected to "dish out" over time, requiring lapping.
