Company Info
Colgate-Palmolive is a US company, operating globally.
Anecdotally, Palmolive Soap was named for its two main constituents: palm oil and olive oil. In today's shaving community, the Palmolive shave sticks sold in Europe are known as a reasonably-priced tallow-based product Palmolive EU Shaving Stick. There are also versions available in Australia. There's a vintage version that was made in Fiji.
Mennen Skin Bracer aftershaves are also owned by Colgate. [1]
Established in 1806, the Colgate company had early premises at 55 John St and 199 Fulton St, New York NY. According to a 1904 ad, Colgate introduced its first shaving soap ca. 1900.[2] As the company expanded they needed more and larger factories. By 1918 USA production was in Jersey City, NJ and the company had added a new Canadian factory in Montreal.[3] The 1918 Montreal address was 137 McGill Street[4]. But by 1922 Colgate had purchased a larger building at 72-74 St. Ambrose Street.[5]
