So what is your top 5 Tobacco so far? Nevermind if it’s rare as hens teeth, or as common as White Bread, or somewhere in between. No need for explanations, rationalizing or defending your choices. Just straight up, your 5 most favorite blends you like to smoke.

1. McClelland 40th Anniversary
2. Carolina Red Flake
3. Old Joe Krantz
4. Kendal Plug
5. Hal O the Wynd

Here are my current favorites (as in this list is good for the next 10 minutes), in no particular order:
Wilke Surbrug Crystal Palace
Watch City Deluxe Crumb Cut
Robert McConnell Folded Flake
WC Rhythm & Blues
Peter Stokkebye Luxury Bullseye Flake

Given I have 79 blends in my smoking stock, this is a tough call.

With a great avatar comes great misidentification
My top 5 for the year 2020:

1. Aged Burley Flake - I love a good burley tobacco and this one is the real deal for me. No topping just some lovely leaf.

2. Luxury Navy Flake - A readily available, inexpensive and delicious VaPer that I reach for often. I will always have this in my cellar.

3. Haunted Bookshop - I love burley and this one definitely scratches the itch, with some other funky components as well. I've smoked a lot this year and will smoke a lot more in 21'

4. Old Gowrie - I love the Rattray's Virginia tobaccos. Marlin Flake, HOTW and especially Old Gowrie. The odds on favorite around here is generally on HOTW...and maybe with some age it is better, but for fresh I enjoy Old Gowrie more.

5. Burlier Morning Pipe - KBV has some incredible blends, this one is at the top of that list for me. I'm not generally reaching for aromatics often, but this blend with a cup of coffee is heaven. Another selling point is that it behaves so well in a pipe without any drying required.

This list is incredibly difficult and as Kelly said, ask me in five minutes and you might get a whole new five tobaccos...great question Kentos.

Hmmm... this is very much a work in progress, as it was only this year that I diversified from a very narrow range of tobaccos. I'll give it a shot though.

1. Condor Long Cut.
Easy first choice. Easy to get hold of, consistent, reliable, and always a good smoke.

2. Gawith Hoggarth Reunion Bourbon Flake.
A new to me tobacco, and I've only had a few bowls so far, but it really impressed. I have just over 25g in a jar, and will be seeing how it develops over the next few months. I will certainly be getting more at some point. I prefer this to Jamaican Flake.

3. Peterson’s University Flake
Again new to me, an I've only smoked a 5g sample. I now have a tin of the current version in the drawer, plus a tin on the previous incarnation, now released as Rattray's Wallace Flake. Whichever I like best, will be the one I repeat order. I want to try Hyde Park too, which I believe is very similar, but as a mixture.

4. Gawith Hoggarth New Prince
This one only came on the radar by accident. I bought a sample on a whim, and love it. Very simple Virginia tobacco, with a hint of topping. A great "anytime" tobacco, particularly in smaller bowled pipes.

5. Gawith Hoggarth Reunion No.27 Perique Flake
I was tied between this one, and Germain's Royal Jersey Perique, but I'll stick with this one for this post. I do like a moderate VaPer, and this is such a blend. Again, I haven't smoked much yet, but have just jarred 25g to revisit later.

Honourable mentions go to Pete's Sherlock Holmes, Squadron Leader, Charatan Rolls, Bob's Chocolate Flake, Ennerdale, Coniston Cut Plug, RED, Eighteen Twenty, Rich Dark Flake, Brown Flake ... so so many...

Despite having stocked up on tins to age, a lot of my favourites are currently only available in bulk or pouch. Jars are planned for the road ahead, if ageing proves to be a worthwhile venture for me.

At least for this winter (in no specific order):
- Davidoff Royalty
- Rattray's Brown Clunee
- Mac Baren Plumcake
- Robert McConnell's Original Oriental
- W. O. Larsen No. 32

I've thought about it long and hard. I just picked up pipes early this summer, so keep that in mind.

1. Carter Hall
2. Haunted Bookshop
3. Sutliff Field and Stream Match
4. PS LTF
5. PS English Luxury

Although Sutliff Revelation Match should really be on that list.

12 months later, little has changed. Four of last year's five are still on the list.

1) Condor Long Cut
2) Gawith Hoggarth Reunion Flake
3) Gawith Hoggarth Red Mixture*
4) Gawith Hoggarth New Prince
5) Gawith Hoggarth No.27 Perique Flake

*I had Peterson University Flake in this position last year.

The next 12 months will see me smoking a fair few blends I haven't tried yet, so it will be interesting to see how much changes through 2022.

Tough call, some are new to me in the last few months, so may not retain their current ranking. In no particular order,
FMOTT
Revelation Match
Bob's Chocolate Flake
McB Scottish Mixture
SWRA

The Lather Maestro
Boy, I don't think I can give a good answer, since I've been away so long. But based on memories (I've been smoking a pipe off and on--mostly off- for 40 years, but mostly cigars last few decades).

I'd have to say, and not in preference order because some I can smoke at home, some I cannot.

  • Mac Baren Vanilla Cream loose cut
  • Prince Albert
  • Frog Morton On the Town (down to my last handful of bowls)
  • My Mixture 965 (10-15 years old, may have changed as latakia sources dried up)
  • NightCap (same comment)
