What's new

Your favorite opening 30 seconds to a song is??

It's more than 30 seconds...the instrumental intro to "I Need a Lover" by John Mellencamp

The beginning of "Rhiannon" by Fleetwood Mac, you instantly know what song you are listening to.

Another that gets me pumped up is Dr. Dre's..."Next Episode". The beat is BBS with Snoop in the background.:001_cool:

Some more obscure, but amazing song intros:
Dag - Worldspinning
Ben Harper - Ground on Down
Spacehog - In the Meantime

Less obscure:
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Funky Monks
311 - Homebrew

..there are a zillion more, and these probably wouldn't be my favorite if I spent some time to think about it, but those were the first to come to mind when I heard the question..
-\Visdom

Instantly recognizable. Somber, memory-provoking notes from the piano/harmonica combo:

I'm sitting here listening to the radio and on comes Areosmith's "Sweet Emotion".
I love the opening to this song. It sounds cool to me.
One of the first bass riffs I learned (I'm not a bassist, but every guitarist has to noodle)

Layla - Derek and the Dominoes
Starship Trooper-Yes
The Spirit of Radio-Rush
Heartbreaker-Zep
Eruption-Van Halen
AC-DC - Thunderstruck is the first that comes to mind.
Long Live Rock 'n' Roll - Rainbow
"Diary of a Madman" from Ozzy for now.
Rush 2112 - the intro is more like 1:30, but still
The Who Baba O'riley
+1!

Led Zeppelin - Over the Hills and Far Away

Good memories. OTHAFA + 12 string guitar + college girl + alcohol = A Very Good Evening!

Detroit Rock City - Kiss
Whole Lotta Rosie (off If you want Blood) - AC/DC

And to add...

"The Trooper" - Iron Maiden (and I could list at least a dozen more Maiden songs)

"Green Manalishi" - (original version) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6h6J2W17V9A
