What's new

You remember that one Green hulk Fatboy? It's out of ICU.

Well here it is two day's later. Nothing I could do could restore it to it's original shine as this is as close as I could come. This will eventually be a pif. All in mechanically working condition, 1-9 is alive again, doors open & close. But as you can see, the years of water left it's mark on the knurling and caused some brassing on the adjustment dial during the restore proces. So out of ICU and back to the real world, albeit with some mark from the years. This is a testament to the durability of Gillette. Tell me what you think? Anything more could be done? Thanks for looking.:001_cool:

In order Top left, bottom, middle, top right.
First photo obviously when I first bought these.
BOTTOM photo is day one of restore
Middle & right the finished product.

Nice to see one brought back from the brink of certain death . . . very nice job!

It's a great candidate for a re-plate!

Thanks guys. I was thinkng if only they made diamond coated powder that could be sprayed on like Teflon or ceramic! Lol.

XRAY: That's it? Nothing more? Lol.

Brandon:

Very nice save, my friend. You have restored yet another vintage Gillette to useable condition. I think I'm going to start calling you Dr. Rx because of your excellent rehabilitation skills!

My vote is either PIF the user grade or replate if you are going to keep it. Besides, you could probably use a little extra room in your shave den after all your recent scores.

Enjoy your shaves.

Don

Good to hear from you Don. Btw, I went to the same AOS store you did and I had a good experience there too. Didn't get anything but nice experience nonetheless.
I have just scored another long handled Black beauty adjustable with a V date in NM condition. Perhaps a reward from the shaving gods? Pics to follow. A good day today. Drop in more often Don. To your health!
Cheers.
