What's new

You buy and sell and buy and sell and so it goes...

This hobby is maddening sometimes.
I can't stop buying razors. This is beyond an AD.
So over the past little while I've been really trying hard to kick the habit.

I've decided what can stay and what needs to go.
Some has already been sold, but there is more to go.

The thing is, It's kind of sad. I look at all those little razors and I have a hard time letting them go.

But it must be done... right? Is anyone else in the same boat?

You say it like it's a bad thing ! Just think how good you will feel when you have the complete collection !

In my motorhead days I would buy and sell cars. When I got a new one, I'd just keep looking.

Shaving is much much cheaper than collecting cars or women or lots of other stuff.

...You sell so that you can buy more! This way you get to sample more products and eventually, learn which ones you like. Even if you lose a little dough on a sale its is still one more product you have tried.

This is how the world turns too...not just this hobby, or should I say lifestyle

I know what you mean,I limit myself to 5 razors. But now I want to buy another one and I am having hell trying to decide which one goes on B/S/T.

I had quite a few razors at one point, but ended up selling them. The EJ DE87 is the best for me. Kept my nice fatboy, but hardly use it. I became more interested in getting a consistently great shave, than in trying new gear.

You're right, and it's time to unload a few razors. It's been more inertia than attachment for me. Keep in mind that there are thousands of other razors out there you can get attached to, so letting one go isn't a big deal.

I haven't been at it for all that long but I'm already up to six razors (the latest arriving soon). I really like collecting things and once I have bought something, I'll only let it go if it's no use to me. The advantage of collecting razors is that they're not all that expensive and they don't take up too much space. In contrast, I play the guitar and I have sixteen Stratocasters...

I have successfully put a stop to the buying, since I have way more straights than I could ever use.
I'll be putting something like 30 razors on BST, once I have the time.

My apologies, it's not a bad thing at all!
I'm just amazed at how I keep buying and selling.
I think I'll turn my attention to creams and maybe soaps.

I know that it will never end. In for a penny, in for a pound I suppose.

I have one last trip to pick up my last few razors and I'm done with the hardware. (yeah right :tongue_sm)

I like having all these razors. It's a matter of principle to shave with each of them at least once, and preferably for the entire life of one blade. The only exceptions are a few that are actually broken.

After, that, it doesn't bother me at all that some will sit around and never be used again. They're still interesting collectibles.

True, I've been thinking of selling off some that are actual duplicates. The thing is, I doubt if I'd make that much of my money back, and I don't like selling things anyway.

You could leave that up to your executors of your estate when you pass, eventually.

No need to rush and sell what you want to keep.
It's not like we only buy what we use everyday.
If that were the case we all would have stopped with one razor, one brush and one brand of soap/cream.

Enjoy the RAD,

John

Good point...was going to say something similar. As far as collecting stuff, old razors are fairly inexpensive (with some exceptions) and don't take a lot of space. I won't go into my guitars and other musical instruments either, but...

I use this stuff. I don't have many hats that I don't wear from time to time, or instruments I don't play. I don't have razors (so far) that I don't use. And variety seems good to me.

But if it's getting out of control, there's other addicts here you can dump them on! :tongue_sm
