What's new

Yes, Shaving Can Become Boring Again.

I just spent three months in Italy, and for the first time since joining Badger & Blade, I didn't have all my DE razors, all my cartridge razors, and all my soaps and creams.

All I had was a Gillette DE razor, Schick Extreme Disposables, Proraso cream, Proraso soap and Prep Soap. And a Phillips electric razor (which I mainly brought along to use its clipper). My wife and I had been hopelessly over weight with our luggage, and I had to leave behind my kilogram bag of assorted shave sticks and creams that I had intended to take on the trip (and I still had to pay for excess baggage).

So - every day, pretty much the same old routine - do I use the DE or the cartridge? This Cream or that soap?

It got dull. Really dull. Changing the blade brands on my DE razor just didn't do it for me. I actually started using the electric razor again, just for variety.

I did find some more Italian brushless creams to use before I left, but they didn't amuse me after the first shave with each, as they weren't as good as the Proraso.

Now that I'm back home for a few days, that's all changed - used one of my Merkurs, my Jagger, my Weber DLC - with Trumpers cream, Kent soap - I'm back to shaving joy again.

Just thought I'd share this experience, for all the guys here who often mention having too much stuff, and feeling a bit guilty about it, and of what their wives think of their wet shaving mania.
When you don't have all that stuff, all you have is a boring chore in the mornings.

Renato

Dude, that sucks. You were in the variable Mecca of shaving soaps and creams and could score some primo software. I feel for you brother. But welcome home!

Personally I have no problem limiting myself to one brush, one cream, one soap, and one razor. Don't find it boring as I focus on my technique which makes it interesting.

No problem here so long as it's a quality software & and I have an excellent razor. I'm good. As it is I go a month with one razor at a time in rotation so meh and Mike's soap. I guess what your feeling is the loss of your shave den. I hate being away from home to long.

Thanks for that, it's an interesting perspective. But once you've got no cuts, no nicks and a close shave - then you have the technique down pat. What's to focus on?

With a straight razor you are always focused. But most of the time I use a DE and I still have to focus otherwise I get irritation.

I think one month may be borderline to when what I experienced starts setting in.
