Yard Sale Badger (Yipee!

So I just acquired this Culmak Best Badger and am pretty excited about it. I haven't washed it yet, but the knot seems to be in pretty good shape. I'm hoping it's not too floppy. I'm hoping to use it, but am concerned about the decal on the back side. Are these pretty durable, or is this something that I do in fact need to be careful of?

Clean it up and use it. The risk of getting anything from it is minimal. If you are worried, you should be able to find a plethora of advise on how to clean it more deeply.

Very awesome find! You found this at a yard sale!? Did the seller know that he/she was selling something so cool to us wet shavers? Or were they just looking to unload?

Thanks. She knew it was a shaving brush, but I doubt that she has any idea of how deep our interest runs in these things. I'm not worried about me, I'm worried about damaging the decal on the brush that says it was made in England.

That decal will come off pretty easily if you aren't careful. I have a couple Rooney's that had brand new decals on it and one came off all the way when I cleaned it in hot water and soap and the other lost small bits all around the perimeter. The nail polish is the safest bet and that is what I used for the one brush that I wanted to salvage. It isn't perfect because you can see the polish when the angle and lighting is right, but it may be better than the risk of losing your decal.

Great handle. I just bought a Culmak handle that someone re-knotted and then somewhat re-finished the handle. Mine is a bit thicker than yours, but very similar shape, maybe the same. I think mine was/is an 88. Super handles. I wish mine still had the decal, but if you saw a picture you would see why it doesn't. It is the most unusual brush handle I've ever seen and I just had to have it. The bonus is the handle is super comfortable and the Whipped Dog silvertip knot in it is perfect.

Congrats on the great find.
