Wyatt Earp's straight razor 7-day set

So I was reading in a news article about a town in PA that tried to open a Western history museum, bought a bunch of exhibit items, then failed. I guess they're auctioning them off now. I went to the auction site out of curiousity and found, among the items, a few straight razors, including what is apparently a 7-day straight razor set owned by Wyatt Earp...

"In a fitted case marked with letters for days of the week. Bone razors each with the name Wyatt Earp. Each razor by Hall Bradford with the day of the week marked on the blade. Outside of the case has worn gold letters that say Wyatt Earp."

So... anyone looking for a rather unique shave set?! Who knows how well this town checked provenance, but they apparently believed it to be legit.

I'd post the link, but I don't believe that links to auction sites are allowed? I think you could Google it easily enough. There's a few other historical straight razors and shave sets/mirrors up for auction as well.

Well, you never know. Apparently most of the collection sold two years ago at auction, but it all had minimum bids and a lot of it got returned. The town needs cash, so now they're putting it all up with no minimum bid.

But, yeah, if authentic I really doubt it'll be going anywhere near a price my budget would allow. And how on earth do you even prove something like that to be authentic in the first place?!

EDIT: I take it back. The news article said no minimums, but they're wrong. They have starting bids, and that item has a high one! Also, apparently it is somewhat authenticated. See my next post.

Oh- well apparently it is somewhat documented. I searched by "Razor" to see what else they had and found a Wyatt Earp document collection that includes a letter that says this: "Card for the Dexter Saloon. Name listing Wyatt Earp and C. E. Hoxsie as proprietors. Letterhead for same with a hand written letter, Dear Nephew; I am sending you his (Wyatt's) 7 day razor set. Included is a ledger page signed W.S. Earp. Note: The razor set referred to in this letter is Lot 5228 of this auction."

Too bad there aren't closeup photos of the opened razors. They could all be rust. They definitely are sunk far into the scales.

I think we are seeing why they are having difficulty selling things. Who would pay any price for something with such poor pictures? 25% premium as well, wow

That is pretty cool, but for me it adds little value if it was owned by Wyatt Earp (or any other person). I love my straights but they are tools for me, and I would use them.

The one razor I would love to get my hands on but sadly will never get the chance, is my grandfather's razor that was left in Cuba, that razor would be priceless to me, the rest are pretty steel that serves a purpose.

He wore a gun on his hip, rode a horse to work and hung out in brothels and saloons.
He drank whiskey, gambled well, hunted criminals and gunned down men that tried to kill him.
Damn - he had one helluva wild/crazy/tough life; but it musta been grand to be Wyatt Earp.

Yeah - I'd like to have that set.
