What's new

WTG, Check, XTG, Not Bad, ATG...YIKES!!!!

Been shaving mostly with the grain to get started. I've tried a few across the grains with great success. This morning I tried one pass of each and then added an against the grain pass. WOW, that really gets a close shave and is also a little more tricky then the other two!!!

Yup, everything will be smooth sailing and the I get brave and try to get ATg on the upper lip (for more comfy smooching with the SWMBO) and then out some the nicks! Only razor I can do that with in confidence is the Feather AS-D1.

I normally do a WTG pass then I'll do a XTG pass. I got brave once and tried my hand at an ATG and it wasn't pretty. I'm sure it was my technique, but my face did not respond well at all.

A good thing that you survived! In your shoes, I would try a second XTG pass in the opposite direction before trying to add the ATG to your routine. Take it easy and concentrate on the basics (lather, blade angle, noooo pressure) and you will get the job done.

I don't need the ATG pass. With a pretty light/fair beard I get by with 2 passes: 1 WTG, 1 XTG.

How do you do your neck ? I find XTG on neck to be the trickiest so I only do WTG and ATG on my neck. Any advice for XTG over neck? I find the 4 pass shave to give the closes smoothest shave but still have issues with the neck.

I tried the three passes With, Across, Against again this morning. The Against is doable for the most part, but is really tricky for me right around the chin line. I'm not sure I'm going to keep it up for now and will probably go back to a two pass (With and Across) for a few weeks to work on techniques. I'm also going to concentrate on one brush and one soap/cream for that time period to eliminate variables. I will likely come back to the Against pass in time, because it seems within reach, but I want to work on other things first.
