What's new

Wow, cheap horn scales

leighton I like your signature "got honing?" very cool, and catchy :thumbup1:

Thanks Ambrose. I tried.

Still waiting for Seraphim, Fnord, or someone to go ahead and add a razor to the "razor pimp" picture. Since apparently, that is my unofficial title...Thanks Seraphim.

What scale materials will you be working with in the future Jose? Woods? The shell veneers? Curious minds wish to know! Plus my stockpile of scaleless blades is starting to pile up. Just found a cool German one I might want to rescale and keep.

Oh boy you guys are in for a real treat. My new stock will be woods here is a list and some pics.

birds eye maple, tiger maple, ambonya burl, high figured koa, curly pink ivory

I've done a few hundred razors, primarily in horn and I haven't had a problem with it. The trick is to take the fight out of it from the beginning. With enough heat you can twist it into a pretzel if you like then straighten it right back out.
Lets face it, several million were made with it.
You can't just bandsaw it out and expect it to work with just some clamping.
As far as custom scales go , they're right in that ballpark.
