I saw that when it was around $300. There must be some very serious collectors or early shaving gear around. I've seen similar lather catchers of brands that I've never heard of fetch similar amounts.
That's quite an impressive piece right there!!!
Some folks go cuckoo over those oldies if they have the metal can...seem to bring double the price over a wooden box
it was a razor made by the masterminds behind gem cutlery (jerry reichard and august schueber). extremely rare. one went for $700+ almost a month ago.
Folks who collect at that level must - at least in my imagination - keep the collection in a walnut lined room with floor to ceiling bookshelves (don't forget the rolling ladder!), art deco wet bar in the corner.
Hopefully not some crazed hoarder like me - gypsum lined walls, pine books shelves over flowing with stuff that aren't books, books piled in boxes and on the floor.

Yup...you'd need a dedicated shave den in addition to the usual study...when was the last time you saw a place that had enough rooms to allow for both...!!!
