What's new

Would you use it?

I recieved a gift from my gf.. It caught me off guard to say the least, no special occasion (I remember stuff like that). She gave me a re-plated Red Tip razor. Would you use it or leave it in the pristine condition that it is?

I'd use it. If you don't use it she'll assume you don't like it, I can guarantee it. If it begins to show wear, it will just tell her how much you appreciate what she gave you.

If you really don't want to use it, always have a blade in it and on your counter so she thinks you do, tell her it's in your rotation.

If it's replated it's not pristine. It may look absolutely fabulous, but it has no value as a collectors item.
I say use it in the spirit in which it was given.
These things were made for shavin' - put it to good use!!

Can you ask her if it was a gift meant for use or display?

She may be a keeper. Seriously, she was paying attention.

Use it and enjoy. That is what it is for.

I agree with above: it's a replate so there is zero collectible "value" left. Use it till it needs to be replated again!

And propose to her.

Well it looks like the votes are in. I wanna thank you all for the input it is greatly appreciated. This site rocks. I am gonna use it tommorrow with a Astra SP in good health. The replate job looks good pristine in a useable way but not in a collector way. I wonder how long until it wears out?

It's been 55 years or so since it was originally plated, so I'd say that maybe your Son or Grandson might have to think about having it replated.

Use it! It's been replated now so it doesn't have any collector's value. Gotta have it in it's original pristine condition for that.

Use it!!

I only possess razors because I intend on using them, and the Red Tip is too wonderful of a razor to simply let it sit, and collect dust!! Use it, and use it with pride!! :tongue_sm

I'm new here and to the razor game......what's the significance of the red tip? Maybe I'm missing something, but I see a few on the bay..........is it a specific year that is important?
