What's new

Would appreciate some identification help.

I posted this in my newbie check-in thread, but thought I would cross post to here.

I was in town this morning, stopped by an antique store, and hey! they had a 1920's ?? Gillette. I couldn't resist. Anyone able to help further ID it? Forgive the terrible pictures, they were done from my lap in the car, in the dark, with an iphone.

I did a little homework on it, so I know it's an open comb ball end, but any further than that and I'm at a loss. For a scale reference, the paper is 6"x9" legal pad.

Thank you Sunflake.

After an hour in simple green and some time with a toothbrush, it cleaned up nice. It has no serial number that I can make out. The left half of the Gillette diamond is almost completely rubbed out, as is the first half of "Gillette." On the right side of the diamond is some lettering that I can't make out with any certainty, but I believe it says "Mark." It's back in the green for a few more hours before I go back to scrubbing.

Concur. Looks like my "Old Type" ball end. That should clean up and and is a great shaver, but a little on the aggressive side so be careful. With patience it will give you a BBS - sloppy technique with give you face surgery. <G> Nice find. Is the handle split any?

2 Splits. At the head, the piece at the head that wedges into the handle looks like it was wrapped in cloth to hold it in. And at the base, there is a hairline split that hasn't turned into a crack yet.

Very common. The cracks can be fixed with a little marine grade epoxy.

Thanks for the epoxy tip. I had been thinking of using JB Weld, but now that I consider it more, that stuff doesn't dry clear. At around 0500 GMT I'm going to pull it back out of the simple green and give it another scrubbing.
