The tip had previous work done to it, and the horn scales were salvaged, just shortened a bit and a light polish.
I forced a patina, and just finished honing it. Now I am ready for Sunday monring!
Is there a downside to these shorter razors? I've seen a few around here, and they almost look like they'd be nicer to shave with.. less to keep track of, at least, but I guess that's the newbie in me.. sometimes the blades seem long!
Doesn't hold as much lather, less distribution of pressure around the length of the edge, maybe easier to lose track of how you are angling the point, but overall probably not much of any issue.
love the look of the patina - clean, but looks like it has a great depth of history
When forcing a patina with nitric acid or hot vinegar is there any problematic damage to the razor edge? Or does a light bevel setting and honing repair any damage done by the acid? ( thinking pitting or other structural damage at the razor edge)
