Worst Deal of the Century?

I just don't understand what possesses a person to even put up such an auction! Do they not research prices or is there something about this razor that I'm missing? :confused1

Just to **** him off, I just made a $10.00 offer for the razor. If the price was a typo ($5.00 intended but came out $500) then I'll buy the darn thing for $10 and be happy. I'm guessing his PM won't be so nice...

This seller really has a pair. I've already received a counter-offer of $300.00. I countered it with an offer of $10.50.

Something said by P.T Barnum about suckers and minutes comes to mind...

Hey, if they can get someone to buy it and be happy with the price, more power to them. That person sure won't be me, though...

He countered by $10.50 offer with an offer of $499.99. I countered with $7.50! Looking at his other items, I think someone must have told him it was Lincoln's razor or something. His other stuff is a tad high, but not totally outrageous.

He countered for $175.00. What a troll! I simply declined. At least now, if he was misinformed, he can fix it. If he is a walking pucker, at least he knows it.

Why can't people spell "you", and have to use the ugly "u" in written text instead? It's only 2 letters more! (and looks a lot more professional)

Auctions like that are pretty much just the seller's way of getting a "Best Offer" auction. The BIN is there because it has to be, and if someone wanted to pay that I'm sure the seller would be ecstatic. But really they're just going to let it run to see what offers they get and then either decide to sell or not.

i saw a "gillette slim" the other day for about $200. it was a 55 superspeed. smh.

some people have no shame.

I saw the 500.00 offer and thought he was nuts NOS or not.
I came across an antiques site a month or two back and asked SWMBO if we could spare 300.00 and she looked at me like I'd finally lost it and told me I was not dropping 300.00 for a razor.
When I told her it was not 300.00 for "a" razor but 300.00 for 4 NOS early 60's Super Speeds,2 mint cased Super Speeds and the Gillette Point Of Sale counter rack display she dug into the budget and we couldn't do it.

When I started at this I thought my first wild find, a tech from the 60's was worth $$Hundreds$$.

When I first started looking at vintage razors, I got a fat handle Tech for $12. I thought "what a steal", but I've seen them since as low as $5 for good conditioned ones.

I resisted asking the ebay seller a "question" and commenting. I must be learning restraint in my old age. I stared my DE renaissance two years ago for $5 with a 1957 Gillette Flare Tip I found at an antique store. I've picked up a couple more Techs and Super Speeds for under $10 but most of my wild finds and even ebay scores have been in the $15-25 range. I haven't gone over $25 for anything yet, even razors in cases in excellent condition with original blue blades. A little patience, a little knowledge, and a little luck is what it takes. Now, I'm not saying I won't lose my mind when I find some elusive rare razor!

Update: This listing was ended by the seller because there was an error in the listing.

He reposted it, regular auction, starting at $50.00 with a buy it now for $125.00.
