Woodsy Scents?

Hello all, I am on a quest to try and find the perfect (or several great ones along the way) woodsy scent fragrance for me.

I've fairly recently reacquired fragrance AD, and at first focused mainly on office appropriate scents since I figured that is where I would wear frag's the most. I now have a much too healthy rotation of office friendly scents such as ADP, GIT, Grey vetiver, TDH, Tam Dao, and probably a bunch of others. What I've found however, is that my favorite time for frags is after work, usually after the kids are in bed and I have some relaxing or tv time to enjoy. Then I can apply what I really want to smell, and not really worry too much if it smells too much or too unusual, or if it looks odd that I keep sniffing my arm.

That being said, I'm really into woodsy scents right now. A couple of my most used frags at home right now is Tam Dao (which I do also where to work sometimes) and Gucci pour Homme 1. I love both of these, and appreciate the smell and don't really care if it's weird that I smell like I've been in a saw mill or whatever it might be. I want maybe a little bit more variety of scents that contain just straight wood, like I'm sniffing the freshly cut stuff. Not necessarily wood influenced fragrances, but just wood. I also have decants of frags like Timbuktu and Ormonde Jayne Man, and while I really love both of these they still have a perfumey aspect to them. I'm looking for recommendations that smell more like wood than cologne.

I'm going to start hunting down some samples of:

CDG 2man, maybe wonderwood
It looks like Sonoma Scent studio has a couple that might be worth trying, so I'll order a few samples from this line
Perhaps even Dirty English sounds interesting, but it might have other stuff going on too.

Any other recommendations that I should try?

Thanks for looking!

Tommy Bahama offers a pretty straight-up cedar and smells very close to Gucci Pour Homme I, IMO. You might like it. The Sonoma Scent Studio fragrances (Fireside Intense and Winter Woods, right?) are enjoyable, though I still haven't made up my mind about owning FI; it's a little sharp on the nostrils at times.

Mama Bear has some soaps that smell like cut wood, and I think she offers to custom-blend colognes to match. If so, you're in luck. She made me a cedar-scented balm that is outstanding!

Please let us know how your search went. I really like the wood scents, too. Good luck.

I think I've seen Tommy Bahama at discount stores at a fairly reasonably price, so I might see if I can get that on the cheap. If it's anything like Gucci PH I I know I'll enjoy it. Thanks for reminding me on this one.
Allow me to tempt you with some Oud oils :w00t::

The sample prices might be shocking at first but 0.2ml will last quite some time.

Your nose will thank you but your wallet will not!

I'm sure you're right about oud oils, but right now they kind of scare me. At the ridiculous rate that I've been picking up fragrances, shaving brushes, soaps and creams, adding oud oils might just be the end of me! But who knows, I still might dip my nose in there sometime.

Tom Ford Amber Absolute: until the base notes appear, it's basically the smell of a freshly sawn 2 x 4.

I wasn't impressed by it for this reason, but it sounds like it's exactly what you are looking for!!

Creed boos de Portugal is awesome. More smoky than woodsy. Kenzo has a new woods fragrance actually called kendo Woods. Way too woodsy for me but may be to your liking.

Sandalwood? Nobody's mentioned sandalwood? OK, I'll mention it:

Sandalwood.

I have been sampling "Arden for Men Sandalwood" for the last few days, and I think it would be very fitting for what he is looking for. It's more smoky rather than sweet as most sandalwood seems to be.

Dr Harris Sandalwood might be a good candidate as well (technically it's an aftershave, but when I was sampling it, I got a good amount of longevity from it; about 4 hours).

CDG Sequoia is quite woody on me. I didn't think much of Wonderwood.

I forgot about Sequoia, that one sounded really interesting, as well as I want to try Hinoki too. That makes at least four from this house that I want to get a good sample of, I wish they had a sampler to get rather than going through TPC for each of these.

I have a small sample of this, and just tried it a couple of days ago for the first time. It is actually pretty close to what I'm looking for, but the sweetness of the amber gets in the way for me (I know, it's an amber frag!). I'm still kind of on the fence on this one, as it is pretty nice but it might have more sweetness than what I'm looking for.

Sandalwood is all good! Love me some Sandalwood. I'm pretty excited about Lorenzo Villoresi's Sandalo, and might save up for a bottle of this, although Amouage's Sandalwood Attar sounds pretty interesting too. For me, I don't think I can have enough variety of nice woodsy scents, so I hope to end up with several different types that all make me want to be sniffing my wrists all evening.

I'm be putting together a sample order soon, if there are any other recommendations shout them out!

I forgot to mention that I thought I had sniffed Kenzo's Wood scent at Sephora before, and don't remember it being too memorable. I think I'm going to pick up a gift for the wife there soon, so I'll look for this again and see if they can send me home with a sample of it to try.

I have some. It's good stuff, but it's basically sandalwood EO in oil. My guess would be either FCO or jojoba. I can't detect any other notes. For what it costs, you might be better off sourcing actual sandalwood EO. If you're interested in doing so, try this one (my personal fave) or this one. :thumbup1:

Oh yeah - sandalwood - can't believe I forgot!

+1 to both of those sandalwood sources, I also purchased both on Evan's advice.
