Wooden Bowl

I use a ceramic bowl from pier 1 imports for my soap because I can nuke it in the microwave. but wood should be viable too

Yes, and yes. Probably a plastic container, or stainless steel, is the most practical container for soaps--but we're not really a practical bunch here, are we?

I presume this is for storage, not for lathering? Any container that's about 1-cup in volume will work. Wooden bowls are fine as long as you don't expect them to last forever. Ceramic is nice-looking, but easy to drop and break. Thick glass can be good: fairly attractive and stackable. Plastic is cheap and stackable, but not very attractive.

I have the MWF ceramic bowl, and the Tabac glass bowl. Everything else is in Ziploc XS or Rubbermaid 1-cup plastic bowls.

They sell soaps in both wooden and ceramic bowls, so both work fine. The only thing I would make sure of is that if you used a wooden bowl that it was sealed against water damage.

I highly recommend Anchor-Hocking glass bowls. They are just about the perfect size, and are taller than the puck which helps keep the brush on the soap as you swirl.

I recently went to a store called Marshalls, I think they are across the US. And they have a bathroom section. I picked up a large stainless steel bowl with cover for 6 bucks. This was just after I picked up a 20 dollar stainless steel bowl with cover that is 4 times small for 20 bucks online.

Most of the wooden bowls sold for shaving are far to small to ever hope to effectively lather in. They are designed that you would load your brush from the soap sitting inside of them, and then move to another bowl, or your face for the actual lathering. As such, they are mostly aesthetics, and far too expensive for what they are.

For an actual lather bowl, you will want something much larger, like a fairly large cereal bowl, or a fairly large cappuccino mug.

My DR Harris Arlington soap sits in their mahogany bowl, and it looks really nice. Just adds to the experience in my opinion. I squeeze most of the water out of my brush before loading it up, so the bowl stays relatively dry.
