Women's Frag Sampler

My wife has really expressed an interest in trying new fragrances, but we don't want to go to the mall and spray any and everything. Is anyone aware of a good place to buy an affordable sampler package? I'd really like to get her a nice bottle of something for Christmas (meaning, she's requested a bottle of something for Christmas, but she wants to try some stuff to find out what she likes).

One of the best places I've found for samples is the Scent Monkey website. That's for individual samples. I don't have a good suggestion for a place to buy sample sets.

Sephora has a deal where you buy a bunch of samples of popular designer scents for a certain price, and you get a voucher for a free bottle of the one you like. Go to sephora.com and search for "sampler"... looks like they have two options for women.

i bought one one for my wife for a gift recently. The SA's recommended the limited edition one with the miniature bottles, because some women tend to prefer the miniatures over the regular sample vials. That wasn't a factor I had considered as a guy, but was a hit.

There are so very many fragrance possibilities. Is it possible to narrow it by floral, woody, oriental, spicy, etc? Does she have any current favorites that you/she can springboard from?

I saw prearranged sample sets from Penhaligon's made available. I just don't know where to get them. Maybe Penhaligon's directly?

That's the problem, she has a few things, but has tried so few, that she doesn't really know what she likes.

I understand your wife's reluctance to go to the mall and spray on everything. But, perhaps an alternative is to go to the mall and try two things at a time (one on each arm), which is what I do. Use a site like Fragrantica and/or Basenotes for their search directory of fragrance types to identify some things that are representative, then look for those. Also I think that perhaps Surrender To Chance and Decants have a search feature by fragrance types. Make it an adventure!

Edit: a shop like L'Occitane would give you a wide range of options (though more limited brands) to get ideas, as well.

I think I'm gonna do a sephora package, and Surrender To Chance package. Part of the trouble is deciding which frags to put in a sampler. Both those companies take some of the guess work out of it. That'll give her 20 something fragrances to sample. Which is PLENTY to give her an idea of what things she likes. I'm a "smell" kinda guy... I LOVE all sorts of fragrances, and am never afraid to complement a perfect stranger on her/his frag. So I think this will be a really fun experiment for both of us.
