Witch Hazel and additions

OK - I don't know if anyone has asked this but - has anyone tried to add essential oils to Witch Hazel to add some "interest"? I was shaving with some T&H Lime and thought - hummmmm what if I added a bit of Lime (essential oil) to that?

Sounds to me like you just nominated yourself for an experiment!:lol::lol:

I tried mixing in lime essential oil but I just didn't like it. To me it smelled like a cleaning product of some sort, not really pleasant. I do like lavender, rosemary or bergamot, and a little peppermint, however. Tried those after reading some other posts here on the subject.

I tried mixing tea tree oil for its astringent/disinfectant properties. While the brew worked amazingly well on my skin, it smelled god-awful.

Would recommend that you mix a strong fragrant oil as well to cover up the bad odor such as bergamont, which has a nice citrus-y smell, or maybe even frankincense, myrrh, or patchouli (all of which are known to be beneficial for the skin and smell wonderful). Rosemary is very good too like the other post said, but I'm not sure about the smell. Lavender would be great for this for its smell and medicinal properties, I just happen to be allergic to it.

peppermint oil works great if you go easy on it. I add some aloe vera gel, too, to thicken the consistency and make it even more soothing.

Oh I do like the idea of the aloe vera gel - I think I am going to get a few small bottles and give a few a try. I have a few essential oils now and will give them a try.
