Wiping Blades?

I have come accross the following text on several Safety Blade packagings :"Do Not Wipe Blade".

Is this for safety reasons or is there another reason for the quote

Interesting topic.

Most blades will say something like that - I think it's more of a safety concern, and they put that on there at the advice of lawyers.

However, I've heard that wiping a blade does extend it's life (apparently by reducing corrosion).

See Here for a discussion this past summer on this.

There for safety reasons. The key is not wipe across the blad where it will cut you. But you probably already know that.

Thanks all for the info!

My original reasons for asking the question were because I have always blotted my razor blades with tissue paper whilst cleaning my razor (after every shave), then using the paper to wipe the blade lenth wise & placing back within the razor, ready for the next use - as this prevents the blade from rusting.

I'm not coordinated enough. If I started wiping blades I'd be picking up severed fingertips and dialing 911 with my toes.

1-Chance to cut yourself
2-It can dull the blade

I always pat dry the blade post-shaving to prevent any rust but I never got a blade that rust...

I wipe my blade clean after rinsing, then dunk everything in alcohol before letting it air dry outside of the bathroom.

My original reasons for asking the question were because I have always blotted my razor blades with tissue paper whilst cleaning my razor (after every shave), then using the paper to wipe the blade lengthwise & placing back within the razor, ready for the next use - as this prevents the blade from rusting.

It's the lengthwise wiping that puts you at risk. A slight deviation from lengthwise is a slice. Better to wipe slightly outward along each edge.
