Win 7 - 32 bit or 64 bit ?

Can anyone tell me where to find this info for Windows 7 to update printer drivers?
Thank you for any help.
Sue

Windows 7 is a 64 bit operating system. If you have Windows 7 Professional, you have a Virtual Windows XP feature that allows you to run older 32 bit based software.

click start;

highlight my computer and click;

highlight and click system information.

This is the process for XP but similar to 7.

Yeah, it's 64-bit and a pain in my side because it has crashed at least 5 times since I bought a new machine last week.

Sue, what printer do you have? Win7 automatically loads correct drivers in most cases. Well, that's what they say anyway. I had to get an updated driver from HP to get my laserjet to work correctly. You may need to go to the mfg website and download an updated driver--some vista compatible drivers will work.

I built my current desktop w/ Win 7 Pro and absolutely love it. I didn't go through the Vista stage as I felt it would just be ME warmed up again(like the evil empire did between 98SE and XP) to add new tech w/o proofing-let the peons find out the problems for us.

Having said that, getting the proprer printer drivers could be simplified. 7 does a great job of acquisition, but so-so on implementation. It expects you to manually add the drivers even though it appears to have done so.

Once you manually add the drivers, your printer will work fine. For some reason, it initially only adds the basics of your print driver-not the nuts and bolts that you expect to be there. This may be a result of their security-carried over from Vista.

+1 you're probably better off updating directly from the printer manufacturer website, that is unless Windows 7 has native support for you printer.

The printer is a HP Laser CM1017. This past week or so it has quit printing unless turned off and back on, then it will only print one sheet. I haven't changed anything recently.

Updated to a new computer (Gateway/Win-7 from Compaq-XP) but that's been a couple months ago. Maybe the printer is ready for the curb.

I am not a computer person and will be the first to say so. :blushing:

yeah. it probably needs a roller :glare:tuneup an readjustment of the springs. I would gladly fix it for you but you're far away. I love fixing printers and PCs. At this point you might want to consider buying a new printer then.:blush:
