Willkinson Shaving Soap

The only shaving soap that is available locally Wilkinson.

Question
What is the feeling about Wilkinson Shaving Soap?
Good? Bad? OK?

I can't speak to Wilkinson but I haven't heard much about it. People say the stick is fantastic. Do you have a Shopper's in your area? Shoppers typically carries the green and white versions of Proraso which are both really good.

The Soap is, in my opinion, absolutely terrible. The lather, in those very rare ocasions where you're able to build some, is extremely thin and dries up quickly. Also, it offers little to no protection, with poor glide.
Do yourself a favor, and don't buy it.

If you can get the stick, that one is pretty good. Much better than the soap, and generally cheaper (here the stick goes for less than half of the soap).

I don't know where you're from, but are you sure there is nothing else locally available? :confused1

Regards.

I've gotten some good lather from the Wilkinson's Sword soap in the blue tub.

I prefer Proraso, which I've seen in the Sidney SDM.

If you ever get down to Victoria, Victory Barber & Brand on Blanshard carries some other soaps (I recall seeing some E. Jagger soap there), and Simply the Best on Broad carries some luxury soap brands.

The soap in a bowl is bad, the stick is good. Try to see if you can Proraso or Real Shaving Company at Shoppers.

I've heard nothing but absolutely terrible things about the Wilkinson soap in the blue bowl.

I was in the store today and saw that they had these gift sets for christmas that included a cart razor, carts, a boar shaving brush, and Wilkinson shaving soap (blue bowl). Seems like traditional brush/soap/cream shaving might be coming into the spotlight more, but unfortunately, that Wilkinson soap might turn people off from the idea of a shaving soap/brush.

Yep! It is bad.
It was my first soap so I used to learn how to lather. I had to add cream (cheap, of course) to it to enhance scent and performance.
It could be inexpensive starting soap for someone. That's it!

The stick is great IMO, one of the overlooked gems among the cheap shave sticks. IMHO it is much better than Euro-palmolive. Its performance is more reminiscent to Tabac shave stick.

Knotty,

Thanks for the tip about The Copper Hat! I walked right by Fan Tan Alley when I was there in July, but didn't go in. I'll be sure to check it out next time.

BTW, Jimmy's Barber Shop on Fort Street is a great place for a traditional haircut. Ask for Jimmy or George.

Yesterday I went to Freedom Kilts to pick up my kilt. While I was in Esquimalt I stopped into Shoppers to see what they had in shaving soap. The only soap they had was the Proraso green. I didnt like the smell & cant imagine putting it on my face.
The next time Im in Duncan Ill check out London Drugs & the bigger Shoppers.
I have had no problem getting a nice lather with the Wilkinson, provided I do all the steps in the tutorial. I would like to try some soaps for the scent.
