What's new

Will be trying a doubled edge razor after using an injector for more than 40 years

Although I've been using a Schick adjustable injector since college, a recent search for injector razors took me to Badger and Blade where I discovered that my shaving habits left a lot to be desired. In the past month or so, I've purchased a badger brush and several different types of shaving creams, all of which have been a pleasure to use. I've also learned how to "go light" on the pressure which has resulted in a closer shave with no razor burn. After using the same razor all these years, I picked up a very nice Schick Injector E on E-bay and found that I liked it even more than my adjustable. I'm not sure why, but it just seems to provide a very smooth shave.

After seeing all the posts on double-edged razors, I felt compelled to give one a try and bid a Gillette H4 adjustable on E-bay which I received today. It set me back about $13 and appears to function very well. But I don't have any blades and need to purchase some tomorrow.

Does it matter whether the razor is open or closed when making the adjustments?

Welcome to the DE world....to adjust the slim just loosen it up a bit and click to your desired number, then tighten up the adjuster and your off to shave off that beard.

Glad to hear about your impending change-up. Variety can be the spice of life. You've picked a great DE to tool up with, too. I find that while I enjoy my DEs, I really do get excellent shaves with my Schick Dial Adjustable. I return to it frequently. Enjoy the slim!

I had been shaving with either a Slim Gillette Adjustable or a Super Adjustable for about six or seven years. I had already shaved from 1956 to 1961 or so with an I-model Schick Injector my last year of high school, and during my college years. I have another one of those now, or at least, the Hydromagic version from the same year, as well as a G3 and a G8. Since beginning to visit this place, I unearthed the five Gillette DEs I could find at my place, a bunch of Atras, a TracII, and several Sensors.

Instead of just five DEs, I have about a dozen now. Instead of a single generic pyrex mug for a shave mug, I now half a half dozen. Instead of zero Single Edge razors, I have four or them.

My Hydromagic Injector gives me the best results of any razor I've used since December, 2011. My Gem Micromatic Clog-Pruf runs a very close second behind the Injector, but several DEs are crowded together vying with the Gem for second place.

I used my pair of Slims and the SA from 1965 to 1993, five days a week. One day a week, I would used some "popular" something, such as a TracII, an Atra, or at the end of regular DE use for the years 1993 to 2011, my Sensor. I have "wet" shaved from 1965 through right now, although I did use mostly canned products from 1993 to 2011 (during which time I mostly used a Sensor, and about once a week, used my DE razor).

No one kind of safety razor has any magical superiority over any other kind. All kinds will benefit from applying good preparation and paying good attention to technique. DEs and SEs have a nostalgic aura that results in a rather frequent desire on the part of the newly converted Classic / Traditional shaver to collect numerous razor examples, numerous brush examples, numerous razor blade examples, numerous soap examples, etc etc

Quality products enhance the experience and make the practitioner feel good. It's an overall pleasurable new activity that actually isn't as expensive as most of the collecting manias usually are. If you haven't enjoyed shaving at any point, and wanted to skip over it, you're now likely to shave more than seven times a week, since it can be such a pleasant activity after all.

Welcome, welcome, welcome! Enjoy yourself!

This inspires me to try an Injector for the first time after using a DE (on and off) for almost 30 years. I've got several (I'm in full-on RAD for over a year with no end in sight), but yet to give any of them a try. I guess I need to get some blades first! :)

+1 the same goes for me, have more razors, brushes, bowls and software than altogehter before. buty Iam realy enjoing it.

Nice looking Slim! I'm taking the opposite approach. I've been shaving for several years with a DE and recently picked up a couple of injectors to try out.

IMo, Schick's E type Injector gives the best shave compared to a Straight razor than any other diposable razor ever made...The Gillette adjustables are also great but not the same IMO.

I purchased some Feather blades yesterday and tried my new razor this morning. It provided a very close shave (the adjustment dial was set at 5) with no irritation. Compared to the Schick E, the Gillette Adjustable felt very "heavy" in my hand and I some difficulty finding a comfortable way of holding it. But I have no doubt that I'll feel more comfortable with it by the end of the week.

Congrats on an excellent first time out!!

I shave with a little bit of everything (DE, Gem Razors, Injectors, Valet Auto Strop, Trac II cartridge razor), but feel that Schick Injectors are vastly underrated!!

I agree. This is probably the case because the Schick injectors lack the heft of the double edge razors and, side-by-side, may not look as impressive. But they do provide a smooth shave using a minimalist approach to design.

Congrats on the Slim. You got a runaway deal on it, by the way. They're fine shavers, I love mine. Go to one of our vendors and try a sampler pack of blades. Nothing is so much a personal choice than what razor blade to use.

I was very pleased with the razor's condition which was very good. So far, I've been very lucky with EBay. I've only used it twice and each time I acquired a very nice razor. In both instances, the items had fuzzy photos and were not described particularly well. I guess I was lucky. Maybe I should quit while I'm ahead!

I picked up the Feather blades at Pasteurs in NYC on Sunday and look forward to trying a few different blades. Pasteurs has quite a selection of shaving items. Just wish the aisles were a bit wider!
