Wildest end to a soccer game.EVER!

The video with that link seems to have been removed. I found it here:

http://www.startribune.com/sports/blogs/207289191.html

Quite a dramatic finish, yes. I saw one game in the state championship semi-finals some years back. A team from Kennedy H.S. was unbeaten at 20-0 going into the game and had a 1-0 lead with about 10-12 seconds left. Kennedy dumped the ball over the end line giving their opponents (Cedarcrest H.S.) a corner kick. One of the Cedarcrest players frantically chased the ball down and heaved it to a waiting teammate who slapped it down on the corner while another Cedarcrest player was running to the ball to put it into play. Up it went, bounced around and a header put it into the goal with 1.2 seconds remaining. Then C-crest won in overtime.

So, the team scored one goal in the dying moments of the match and this is the wildest end to a soccer game ever?

Am I watching the right video?

It's the context too. One team (Leicester) missed a penalty kick that would've taken them to the playoff final (for the right to be promoted to the Premier League), and it was taken the length of the pitch and scored by Watford, who won instead. It was a wild finish, but not compared to the two greatest ends to a game of all time in my opinion:

1) The 1999 Champion's League final when Man Utd scored twice in stoppage time to win the European Cup http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMiWFlMQNFs
2) Last year when Man City scored twice in stoppage time to win the Premier League on goal difference, with both City and Utd level on 89 points, but City ahead on goal difference after 38 games. Best finish to a game ever. Period. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_84PP23pDl4

InspiringK, are you a soccer/football fan? I'd say that was pretty wild for an end to a game. Off a penalty with 2 shots and a full pitch run and score... Pretty exciting end to me.

I don't enjoy soccer enough to follow it, but have found a game here and there that I enjoyed watching.

Ah, great, yes thanks, I watched those two games. Those two finishes were wild!

Agreed. The percentage of penalty shots that go in has to be in the high 90%. Add to it the end to end rush while maintaining momentum and not losing the ball(which likely would have resulted in the ref blowing the game finished) all while playing in a game where 45 million is at stake (average additional revenues a team gets for being promoted to the EPL) and you have an amazing finish.

So that's where Almunia plays these days.

Wow what a finish!

Here's another version of the vid, since evidently the Soccer By Ives link was taken down.

I just knew if I kept watching these soccer videos I'd eventually see a goal.

Call me when the goalie gets his teeth knocked out, goes to the side and hands them to a coach before returning back to his position to finish the game.

Which actually happened in hockey a week ago.

wasn't there a thread for that type of sports violence excitement polling a while back?

i fail to see that regular continuation of play (with no front teeth) to finish the game is heart-pounding excitement.

It's happened before. A few seasons ago now. I remember watching the game live. The video quality isn't great but unfortunately it's the only one I can find.

Isn't there a rule that the penalty kick taker can't be the first one to touch the ball if the goalie saves?

Nice goal by Watford.

I must admit though, I've done gone native.
That goal was good, but not as heart thumpingly wild and exciting as the interception by James Willis and lateral pass to Troy Vincent who took it all the way for a combined 103 yard TD to beat the Cowboys in 96.

I saw that in a Montreal game and while impressive not every sport is about who is the toughest, who can take the most punches etc.

When I read that why did I expect you were going to mention David Narey against Brazil or Archie Gemmill versus Holland? Instead you mention some daft sport played with an oddly shaped ball. :001_tongu

Nothing beats Archie Gemmell as the greatest goal ever.
But it wasn't a game ender and they still didn't go through to the next round.
:)

This was the second most exciting ending.
