Try Yves Saint Laurent. Rive Gauche pour Homme offers a modern spin on old school barber shop fragrances. This might work for both of you. YSL's Live Jazz is also in your price range and it's fresh, smells great and is a kid's fragrance. Both are very suitable for a man but they smell up-to-date, too. Two of the best bargain fragrances you can buy.
Lots of good advice in this thread. Some of it will lead to you finding a scent that both you and your wife will enjoy when you wear it, some will lead to your wife staying away a lot longer than a few days. Your call.
