What's new

Why??

Why would anyone even want to bid on this, let alone post it for sale. You'd think they would at least try to make it somewhat presentable.

This one actually looks like it will clean up very nicely. I'd buy it and give it a good going over. I'm willing to bet this Black Handled SS would surprise you.
If you look closely at the edges you'll see there is no plate lose. The brown is all dried scum.

Actually, I'm glad that sellers don't clean them first. I have most of my DE collection from razors that start like that. The antique stores will stick them in a cabinet among the other 'junk' with 5 dollars on it. Then I take it home, give it a good round of various cleaning processes, then I have myself a respectable shaver for practically pennies.

And yes, the black handled SS is one of the best razors I've run across.

Actually soap scum itself seems to protect the metal finish to a certain extent. I'm not sure what the conditions that lead to corrosion versus a well preserved but dirty razor. Moisture content and possibly the presence of salts?

Mark, you should hang onto this one, just in case we ever have an "Ugly Razor" contest. This is Grand Champion material.

Don't worry. It has been on eBay for at least 2 years now. I don't think it is going anywhere so I should be able to get the picture at a moments notice.
