What's new

Why?

I think a picture or two is needed to adequately address your question. :001_smile

My STF:

The 3824 is a beaut; so's the Muhle. I saw a Muhle lather-up video last night; talk about an endless supply of lather! Ah, shoot, I'll just get both and decide later. (I've already got the same Trac II.)

I have pondered your question Foyle, and have come to a conclusion, however, I am not sure you will like the answer.

I have no idea, but I now want a Muhle

Well, this is more of a rhetorical question. I know why. While my SR is a nice, luxurious brush, the Muhle simply makes more great lather with less effort and less product. It's a really great brush.

Foyle,

What size STF do you have, and how does it compare in face-feel to the SR in terms of splay and size? I ask this question because it is often said the synths feel a size smaller than their similarly sized badger counterparts.

I have the 21mm. It definitely feels smaller than my SR which is a 24MM. I also have a Duke 2 which is similar in size to the Muhle, and the Muhle feels smaller than that as well.

Good information Foyle, thanks.

I never have been very good answering rhetorical questions. <grin>

I have the Muhle M89 silvertip Badger and my girlfriend has a Muhle silvertip fibre (same one as you). Haven't tried the fiber but it certainly seems less dense and softer but she absolutely loves it so one of these days I'll take it for a test drive.

I had a syn back in the 70s. The bristles were similar to a stiff monofilament fishing line. It created a great lather with the Williams soap though.

Can one buy a latest generation synthetic brush without the bristles dyed to look like badger? For some reason, this bothers me enough to keep me from making a purchase.

I only use my Muhle Silvertip Fibre, it lathers more product quicker and dries faster. I also own a Semogue Owners Club and a genuine silvertip (also Muhle) and a Vie-Long Horse. I use none of them anymore. Thinking about maybe selling them and buy the biggest Silvertip Fibre in ivory, then i have all 3 SF sizes.
