Why So High

I'm guessing that someone really wanted them. Also, 800 blades is a lot. A new pack of 100 blades at $20 would equate to $160. I guess by that logic, the price isn't very bad at all.

From the bid history it looks like 4 bidders drove the price up. All the 4 bidders' recent activity was on shaving items, so probably collectors. Or it could be someone who's going to break the boxes up and sell the packages individually for a profit. The packages are sealed and NOS.

I would guess that the bidders were collectors. NOS blade packages like that must be really hard to find.
I can't imagine that anyone would have bought these to shave with, as I have heard they suck compared to today's blades.

I guess you are right, if you sold them for $12.00 each you would make a good profit. You see them go for much more than that on eBay. I've paid $14.00 and $16.00 for some of the blades I have in my display.

A NOS pack of blades along with a razor in a case can drive the price well above the individual price they paid for those blades per pack.

The Carbon Steel Blue Blades are a TERRIBLE shave.
Try some of the SS blades from the 60's and 70's though - they are just great blades.

since ive never tired any Gillette DE blades i gotta ask, are those any good?

They are carbon I believe. If so, I've shaved with a carbon blade of another type and did not like it whatsoever. I do have a few packs of Gillette Blues though that I might try one of these days.

*ETA the standard B&B disclaimer: YMMV*

As a side note. In 65 in USMC we were only allowed to have Blue Blades, no SS due to the threat of suicide? They were awful. At that time everyone was a wet shaver. We got Blue blades and Barbasol areosol. Still have an affinity for the Barbasol. I can still remember when Blue Blades were the gold standard. My how times have changed.
