Why is Floppy better for Bowls?

I have a floppy badger brush that I had been using to face lather for about 8 months. I just started bowl lathering after reading here that floppy brushes are better for bowl lathering and, indeed, I get much more lather when bowl lathering. I have a Semogue 1305 on the way that I'm hoping will face lather better. I know from the Wiki that any brush is good for either if technique is perfected, but I was just curious what the science behind this is.

So, why is floppy better for bowl lathering and stiff better for face lathering?

A quality brush is just that. I don't think you need a special brush for soap vs creams or bowl lathering vs face. It's all up to the oiperator.

I think you may have it backwards. I don't think a floppy brush is better than a stiffer brush when bowl lathering, but that bowl lathering is more forgiving of a floppy brush.

I haven't done any bowl lathering since some experimentation over a year ago so may not be familiar with all the subtleties.
