why can't I stop buying razors?

My wife wants to know why I can't stop buying de razors or straight razors for that matter. To tell you the truth I can't give her a reason. I just can't.:confused1

you can't stop because you don't have 'em all yet.

...not even one of each!

Keep buying - you'll get there.

(Eventually you'll have ...enough. Then you'll stop. Really. You will.)

I am worried that all you guys are going to buy all the rest up for your collections, and the prices on the few remaining ones will go trough the roof. So I am getting my razors ASAP so I don't have to shell out $300 for a SS in a decade or two.

I used to collect military long guns (in all kinds of delicious calibers) and automatic wristwatches. I count myself lucky to have RAD. It's soooo cheap! At some point it will slow and stop, and we'll know you're done when we see the 180-piece lot hit the bay.

It's called RAD!

If you're lucky, you'll find the set-up that works for you and then you'll be able to thin the herd as you find you're just not using most of them....unless you're actually buying them as a proper collection, in which case they'll appreciate in value :thumbup1:

Tell her you're searching for the razor that will give you a perfect BBS shave with one WTG pass, every day, without fail, so you can always be perfectly smooth for her enjoyment. Since this doesn't exist you can feel free to further indulge your RAD under the guise of it being for the SWMBO.

Tell her you're going to stop buying DEs and straights effective immediately. Then start buying SEs and injectors. Worked for me. Well, except for a couple of DEs that came in lots of razors that I was buying for the SEs and injectors.:wink2:

I've capped out at 12. Even if I buy another one, it means one of the existing razors will have to go. I know it seems like an arbitrary number, but I'm just not gonna have more than 12 razors.

I did the same thing with brushes. I've capped out at 5.

Don't talk to me about soaps, creams, and aftershaves though. To me, that's where all the fun is to be had. I'll never stop adding variety there.

First you collect one of everything. Then you realize that you want to keep that collection in good shape so you buy one of everything again so you can use it.
Now you decide that you need to outfit a ready-to-go dopp kit and buy more stuff. And so it goes, you keep buying and buying and buying.

The best part is none of what I have said is negative. It's all good. :001_tongu

It takes us all differently. I've lost interest in buying any more soaps and creams until I've used up my very large stock (which admittedly could take years). On the other hand, the hardware continues to fascinate. There's always one more razor that I never suspected existed.:001_tt1: I may not buy it, but not buying it takes an effort.

I like guns, fountain pens, and shaving goodies. Out of the three, shaving is the least expensive vice.

You need to explain to her how lucky you both are.

Do you also have a bass boat? If you don't you could always start talking about getting one. Most hobbies pale when compared to the cost of buying a bass boat, buying the big truck and trailer to haul it with, and feeding it fuel. That would buy several razor collections.

"Honey, I could always just get a bass boat. I'd never need to shave again."

RAD is a pretty inexpensive pursuit compared to things like higher-end watches or audio, or guitars (& I speak from experience here).

It's also pretty easy to let go of razors & recoup most of what you've paid, since there are plenty of others with the same affliction!

Does she have a hobby? What does it entail?

Essentially, for DE shaver/collectors...its like baseball cards or comic books. You buy them, use them and put them on a shelf to look at and admire.

Its only a more adult version of baseball cards and comics.

I'm convinced there is a "collecting" gene and I've had it for years!
