Who's using Pure Jojoba & For what?

I've been curious to try out some Jojoba oil, most likely as a moisturizer, and possibly as a alternative to my current favorite moisturizer: pure coconut oil. I see it Jojoba the supermarket every time I'm there and something is drawing me toward it. I've heard of it as an ingredient but don't know what people are using it for in its pure form.

I haven't read anything here about the use of pure Jojoba, so I thought I'd ask: Who's using pure Jojoba (if anyone) & for what?

. . . I'm prone to having a dry moustache area for some unknown reason and so I normally rub a bit of coconut oil into my moustache area post-shave. It works well but not for as long as I'd like it to work. So I'm also curious as to whether Jojoba might be an alternative facial moisturizing worth trying . . .

Cheers :thumbup1:

I havent had experience with jojoba oil but I do have really dry skin on some areas of my face. I have been using 100% shea butter and argan oil from sheaterra.com with good results. Both have good skin benefits.

I forgot about good 'ol shea butter. I used to buy the raw stuff in big clumps and it would last forever. I believe PdP makes a convenient tube of pure shea butter, as well. Well I might just have to grab a bottle of Jojoba next time I'm at the store and report back, if no one is using this stuff.

I just looked up Argan oil and I'm going to try it out as well.

Cheers cluelessdude! So you're using the shea and the argan in conjuntion? Do you prefer one over the other?

Yep I used the PdP shea butter prior but switched to sheaterra after it finished as it was cheaper and had good reviews. They have two shea butters on the site and I orrdered the raw unrefined.

Since I was placing an order and heard good things of argan oil I decided to order it at the same time too. The thing I like about argan oil is it's consistency and that it comes in a pump bottle. So I always just use one pump for my entire face. Right now I'd say I like them both equally.

I think sheaterra has discount codes as well which knocks the price down.

Let us know how the jojoba oil goes if you end up trying it.

I use pure jojoba oil as a preshave, but have not used it much since the weather turned warmer. Basically, after I wash my face with soap and water, I pour about 3-4 drops of jojoba oil in my hands, rub them together, then massage them into my beard. 3-4 drops is all you need for a daily shave - if you have a couple of days of stubble, you may need another drop or two. I then proceed to face-lather right over it. I find that this gives me very nicely moisturized and soft skin post-shave. I still followup with ASB though.

cluelessdude: Thanks for the heads up on the possible sheaterra discount. I'm going to run some experiments with shea, coconut, jojoba, and argan and see if one of the 4 stands out, as far as being a fine moisturizing AS. With coconut and shea I like them both the same for their moisturizing effects but I prefer the scent of coconut (which really doesn't have much of a scent) over the shea.

closer: Thanks for delivering the first bit of information from someone who is currently using jojoba. I like the sounds of your prep routine. I have been avoiding pre-shaves entirely. I don't think my beard or my shaves are gaining anything by using a pre-shave. But I'll test this out again and see how the jojoba pre (as well as post) works out.

Thanks! :thumbup1:

I use it postshave. I mix it in my aftershave balm( in my hand ). I also have a quite dry area under my chin and this oil works really well. So far the best thing i have tried for dry, irritated skin. Got the tip from a member here. He said he puts on the jojoba first and then some pure witch-hazel extract. Havnt be able to put my hands on any with hazel just yet though..

I'm going to try using jojoba and witch hazel in succession after reading this. Witch hazel is great stuff. I just picked up a bottle of jojoba and have been using it with good results. I'm going to give it another week before I make up my mind as to whether it's something I'd buy again, but so far I'm pleased.

I haven't been using it pure, but as part of a beard conditioning concoction that I have been working on. From my research it seems that jojoba oil is very similar in structure to that of sebum.

Pure jojoba oil (it's really an wax) can be used as a moisturizer. You only need a few drops. Make sure it's cold pressed, and preferably organic.

I use it every night before I go to bed, as a facial moisturizer, but I mix it with something.

I have a small container of witchhazel and aloe vera gel mixed together. I shake that container until I have a small bit on my fingers, then I pour a few drops of pure jojoba oil onto it, mix it together on my hand, and put it on my face.

So I'm really using a mixture that is about 40% jojoba oil, 30% witchhazel, and 30% aloe vera gel.

I also use it as a pre-shave and post shave after my A/S. Also on the days I don't shave I use it as a daily moisturizer. Great stuff!

Used it as a pre-shave and mixed a few drops with my Nivea AS as well. Used it at night as a moisturizer. I found it helped as a pre-shave, but did not moisturize as I had hoped. I attributed this to it being somewhat thick..it's not an oil, but a wax.

I then experimented with Grape Seed oil, which is noticible 'thinner' than jojoba. I find it is better as a pre-shave, post and overall moisturizer. For me, of course. YMMV.
