What's new

Who to clean a Sheraton ?

I put my hand on a nice Sharaton and I'd like to clean it, while my usual method is to use Mother's Metal Polish to clean anything that is Nickel plated, I fear that it will arm the gold plating on the Sheraton.
Could you give me some tips ?

Off the top of my head, a soak in dish soap should make it nice. I might be wrong, i have a milord, '34 crat, and 3 47ish crats. The plating is quite thin on them :(

The plating on the Sheraton is better than, say, what was on the NEWs, but it's still not bulletproof. I've not used Mother's before to steer you toward or away from it, but you don't want to go buff-crazy with anything really. After a standard cleaning routine -- hot soapy water and old toothbrush -- I've had good luck with small amounts of Maas applied with my fingers and then rubbed off lightly with a cloth diaper. (An old t-shirt would be fine too, I just get all the diapers now that the kids are old enough not to be spitting up.) Likely any non-abrasive polish would work similarly well handled the same way.

Scrubbing bubbles but don't let it sit on the razor more than 1-2 minutes before you go at it with a soft toothbrush.

then rinse thoroughly with plenty of water, even letting it sit in a glass of water for 5 minutes or so to make sure everything is out of the center TTO mech then rinsing and drying

I just cleaned up a 1941 Aristocrat a few minutes ago and this is how I handled it.

gold razors do not like polish so not a good idea to use any.

I think the Sheraton ain't made of Yellow Brass like the Super Speed, It must be another type of brass alloy, I polished the doors and the color is much darker than brass I saw on SS or Slim.
PS: I'm lucky, they doors haven't a single scratch : ) I'm not done yet, I have to clean the teeth.

Beautiful razor Maxime! You really made those silo doors shine! I stopped using Mothers on gold plated razors though, mainly because the instructions on the jar say not to use mothers on gold plated items. I now use Connoisseurs all purpose jewelry cleaning kit. The kit comes with a couple of gold and silver polishing cloths that are specially treated for those metal platings. It works wonderfully. I bought my Connoisseurs kit at the local Wallmart. Good luck in your cleaning and god bless my friend.

Morman my fine fellow, its good to see you around :) I usually do not use Mothers on Gold plated razor (I did it once on a New, it ended in tears) but since these doors were not looking gold to my eyes, I gave it a try (Risky indeed). I take note of this 'Connoisseurs' stuff, I was looking for a cleaning kit like that.
