Who Owns a Barber Chair for Their Den?

I was just curious to know how many folks have had their RAD kick in such high gear that they decided to purchase a real Barber chair?

I wanted to see just how bad I have it.....Here's mine. It arrived about 30 minutes ago from a private collector in Canada

These beauty was built in St Louis back in 1888 and is still all original. The only work done was it has been reupholstered 20 years ago and all the hardware has been cleaned. It was never painted thus it has not been stripped and refinished. It is solid Oak with Walnut inlay.

Am I really that twisted or what....

Outstandingly beautiful chair. Mine is from about 1960. I got it for 1 Euro on eBay.

Ray, that chair is beautiful!!!

I have been wanting one. Now that we are in the new house, I might really start looking.

Awesome chairs. I saw one at an antique store and would love to buy it, but alas, I am married. :frown:

And I assume, would like to stay as such.

A guy my dad used to work with had one (a bachelor of course).

I thought that was the greatest thing to have in the den.

Ray, thats the best looking chair barber or otherwise that I have ever seen.

I think I may have developed a new AD though.

That is so cool. The question is: who goes in the chair?

Well, it would be a good place to relax with a hot-towel over your face ... and when all your grooming is done, you could just sit with a nice cigar and your beverage of choice and admire yourself in the mirror.

I've been wanting an authentic barber chair for about 20 years now ... long before I got into wet-shaving. I've looked in antique stores, and asked my friends who are into vintage stuff to look for me ... alas, the only one I ever found was in horrible condition and vastly overpriced.

My grandfather was an old-school barber, and he had several chairs in his basement that were left over from his shop. They were Mission Style, made from Oak, with heavy leather upholstery that needed replacing. But these were more for waiting customers to sit in, not the reclining type. Even so, I wish I had saved them.

But that chair that Ray got is drop-dead gorgeous! Even if there's no room in your shave-den, it would look good in a corner of the living room.

Thanks gents, oh and btw I'm married and yep, told the wife she could toss out my recliner.....

Either that or she could toss me and the chair out.....:wink2:

There's a spare bed for you here in MD, Ray. One condition -- you have to bring the chair. Oh, and the clams.
