Who Makes the Art of Shaving Brushes?

Gents-

To make a long story short, I was in a jam the other day and needed a new shaving brush- I was traveling on a long business trip and was in the vicinity of an Art of Shaving Store. I don't usually buy products from them, because AoS has (in my opinion) very high prices and there are almost always better deals to be found online. Anyway, I plunked down over a hundred bucks for a small fine badger brush with a black handle. It hurt to know that I could have gotten a better deal somewhere else, but the brush is amazing, I would say after 3 weeks of use its the best brush I've ever owned. I've used Omega, Van Der Hagen, Simpsons, E-Shave, Tweezerman, and a couple of custom brushes, all in various grades, I've used boars, badgers, and synthetics. My question is, does anyone know who makes AoS brushes? Their websites says AoS "crafts" them in house, but I know AoS soap is made elsewhere and sold under the AoS name. Is this the case for brushes? My hope is that someone can fill me in so I can go to the maker and maybe save a few bucks off the AoS price. If not, that's fine. Its not the money its the principle of the thing, I don't want to pay more than I have too.

Thanks!

Josh

I believe Muhle makes AoS brushes now. At some point in the recent past, my understanding is that Plisson made them.

Last year I emailed AOS and asked that question. I was told that the brushes are made in Germany, but that they would not divulge who makes them because that was confidential information.

Ha! I don't blame them for their response. The Germany response makes sense, if, as It 114 says, they are made by Muhle. I was checking the Muhle brushes out on various vendor sites, and their prices are in line with AoS prices more or less, so I might as well go back to AoS and get another brush. I just didn't want a situation where I bought an AoS brush at a much higher price if I could get the same brush for much less money, with a different name on it. I have nothing against AoS, I can understand why their prices are higher than internet retailers- lots of overhead with all those mall stores.

As do I but if the product I seek out is there....in hand..I'll pay the extra ( its not likes its 3 times the price) and be happy I have it in my little paw!!..

Someone bought me an AoS silvertip for my birthday a couple of years. It was nice, with very soft tips, but it didn't do that well face lathering so I traded it on the B/S/T.

An AoS brush was my first brush. After 5 years, it's still my favorite. I'm always amazed at how well it's held up. I don't know what it cost as it was a gift, but I'd buy one again.
