Who made Hofritz razors?

From the pictures I've seen it looks like they were made by Merkur. Anyone have some history on this?

Yes, Hoffritz razors were re-branded Merkurs. So were razors carrying the "Coles" and "Pomco" labels.

Why such a difference in price, then?

I've seen the hoffritz slants going sky high lately. Higher than brand new merkurs.

Well, I guess. It's just hard to imagine gillettes going as high as they do if they were still making them.
