Who buys local?

Just wondering if anyone buys shave soap off the shelf at a store close to home.
I got VDH soap at the local Wal-Mart before (didn't care for it!)
It was the only soap they had.
Now they don't even carry it anymore.
Soooooooo it's been all mail order soaps for me and the wife.
So who buys close to home and what do you have and where are you located? (Thinking it might be a local thing:confused:)

Here in Michigan, I can get VDH deluxe at Wal-Mart, and VDH Select at Rite Aid. I can get Williams at Meijer (which is the main competitor to Wal-Mart in this region).

That's about it for shaving soaps.

In terms of Shaving Cream, I can get C.O. Bigelow from Bath and Body Works, and "The Real Shaving Company" from Rite-Aid.

As near as I can tell, there is nothing else to be had locally. The nearby Macy's has too small of a population base to carry the Art of Shaving line.

I did find out today there is a local small batch soap maker nearby, who is making shaving soap. She said the next batch will even be Bay Rum scented! :thumbup1::thumbup1:

I try to get my items from Australia or from Australian vendors as much as I can. I know it's not the cheapest deal as the vendors will need to import those items. It's usually not so bad.

There's a small neighborhood apothecary near Yale in New Haven, CT that has a pretty decent selection of stuff. It's a Mom and Pop store so I tried to spend a little money there every now and then. They have Proraso tubes, C&E Soaps and Balms, Jack Black stuff, Royall Aftershaves, Burt's Bees, a bunch of other small organic non-lathering creams...and I'm sure some other stuff that I can't think of. I bought a Proraso Tube there and their last bottle of Proraso Splash a few months ago. Nothing to speak of in terms of blade selection or brushes, though.

I recently picked up some PdP and Arlington soap at Cambridge Chemists and Pasteurs in NYC (I live about 40 minutes away by train).

Except for Williams and VdH, soaps are a hard to find in stores.

There is an abundance of creams, though ... and priced so cheap that its been easy to fill up my shave den with all sorts of mid-level products, even if some of them only get used two or three times.

Everything locally and for the most part cheap.

VDH pucks for around $1.35.
Blades at my new find at $10 for 100.
Gillette razors from $5 to $15 at local antique stores.
Merkurs at local stores a little more than I would pay on-line.
Aftershaves at beauty supply shops.

Just a suggestion, you would be surprised what you can find at some local ethnic stores or non-chain beauty supply shops.

I noticed a soap maker at the local farmer's market. It was a nice surprise to see he also made shaving soaps. haven't bought any yet, but will do so either before I graduate and move away, or when I run out of the soap I have now, whichever comes first (probably the former).

My local independant chemist stocks a load of stuff i found yeasterday, including kent soaps ingranms and erasmic creams kent soaps and brushes many other brushes including some gorgeous looking beasts, swedish gillette platinums wilkinson sword classics and ever read single edged blades and thats on my doorstep.

In the town next to my village i found a load of stuff that i posted about last week:

I go to london quite frequently so will be able to go to some of the more spe......t shops up there.

I think the only thing i will need to order online are feather baldes.

Locally we can pick up Proraso, Real Shave Co. and Nivea cheap at the drug stores. For blades we have to go on-line. For the Highend stuff, we can go to a couple of bricks & mortars downtown here in Vancouver.

Locally I'm limited to C.O. Bigelow from Bath and Body Works and ASB from Aveda. If I really want to go out of my way, I can head to a C&E. If it wasn't for on-line vendors, I'm sure I would still be using junk in a can and the five bladed blunder. Did everyone just feel me shudder?

I do, I have both the full Tabac line, the Palmolive shave stick and cream, a selection of C&E products (haven't tried those though) and Omega soap readily available near my home and work.

Regards.

Easy for us Germans;-): Tabac, Irish Moos, Palmolive, Nivea, Speick are all available at drugstore chains and supermarkets. Merkur razors are no problem either, I can get them at a little shaving shop in Würzburg (next big town) as well as Mühle and Dovo brushes. The same shop also stocks Golddachs and Col Conk.
I know of several perfume shops that offer a limited range of Harris and Trumpers soaps and creams.
The exceptions are blades, those I have to order online, since Merkur and Wilkinson are the only blades available.

All my after shave I get at my local Drug store.

Locally I can get Trumpers, Taylors, T&H, DR Harris and AOS. I usually buy most of my product at Enchante.
