White flower will freeze your face off

My girlfriend lives overseas, in Asia. Every time she comes to visit she brings me things that I can't easily get here in the states.

On her most recent visit, she gave me a tiny vial of White Flower. What is White Flower?

White Flower Analgesic Balm is a unique combination of essential oils derived from menthol, wintergreen, camphor, eucalyptus, lavender and peppermint, which can effectively alleviate minor aches and pains of muscles and joints.

As you can see, it contains many of the ingredients that mentholated aftershaves contain. So what does a B&B'er naturally do?

After applying some on my back (it was aching me) I took the leftover residual (it was a very small amount on my palm) and I applied it to my face.

WOW. There's nothing like it. It's too cold actually (you know when something is so cold it feels like it's burning?), but not entirely unpleasant. From the description you would think that it would smell like a medicine, but it has a pleasant wintergreen/peppermint scent. It actually mixed well with Brut balm.

If I ever try this again I'm going to have to take an eyedropper and measure out a verrry tiny amount.

You can find White Flower at Amazon, here is one of a few retailers there who sell it:

My girlfriend is bringing me back a bigger bottle next time she comes home :) As you can see (4) .34 oz bottles cost nearly $20 on Amazon... where she is it's less than a dollar per bottle.

If you decide to try it, proceed with caution!

The word Analgesic should give it away, they are designed to affect central nervous system to relieve pain.

I would never have used it as an aftershave, but it beats Ben Gay or Icy Hot for aches and pains. You can find it in Asian markets and pharmacies.

You're right about that, unfortunately I didn't look it up on Amazon until AFTER using it.

And the vial itself has very little in the way of English, it's almost entirely in Chinese.

I've never used White Flower before but I find Tiger Balm to be effective. Some of the asian medicines are rather different than what you will find in the West but can still be very effective. A popular stomach medicine is based around creosote and I have found that to be more effective than some western brands like Immodium for some things. Still, I find it annoying that practically the only painkiller I can get here is acetaminophen. I have found two brands of aspirin and they are rather expensive. As far as I can tell I have to go to the doctor to get say ibuprofen or sodium naproxen.

this is a close relative of TIGER BALM.....many of these asian linaments contain methyl salicilate, liquid aspirin...
