Which Witch Hazel?!

Thayers has so many different kinds available i dont know whick one to start with.

Alcohol free.

Medicated.

Scented. if so which one?

Unscented.

What is your experience with these different products?

I would (and did) go for the T.N.Dickenson WH.

At first I avoided all of the ones with alcohol which pretty much sent me to Thayers. I gave up on Thayers because it left my skin feeling tacky. It has ingredients other than WH, including aloe which might be the source of that tackiness.

Went for the TND and discovered ...

1. The 14% alcohol is a low enough concentration that I don't find it drying (my initial reason for avoiding all but the Thayers).
2. It dries clean -- no tacky residue.
3. The scent is really a non-issue as it dissipates almost immediately. After using it for a while the scent does grow on you a bit.

The drug store brands are probably the same as TND (and might even be produced on the same production line) but I like the TND bottle better. It *looks* nicer and it has a nice dispenser cap instead of needing to unscrew the whole cap.

+1 on the TND. As Bob notes, it doesn't dry, and it has just enough alcohol to close the pores quickly, with a modest sting. And if I'm a little too aggresive on my neck, it helps with razor burn, too.

Interesting, I do not get the tacky feeling you have both described using Thayers. Furthermore I like a little alcohol to privide feedback on my technique. The non alcohol versions are mild and the scents all dissapate quickly so scent layering is not an issue.

For my $$, Thayers.

I use both the Thayer's Medicated Superhazel and the Alcohol-Free Lavender on a regular basis. I find that the Medicated is a little tacky but not terrible. The Alcohol-Free one is not tacky at all. The Medicated has a nice peppermint smell that actually lasts for awhile. The Lavender doesn't seem to stay very long.

If you decant this into a bottle with an atomizer they will last a very long time.

I haven't tried Thayer's yet, but I am really happy with TND Witch Hazel. It is not very expensive and if I feel as though I had a rough shave it helps give me feedback on how bad it really was in addition to calming my skin down.

Also use it to clean my face sometimes before bed. Some people complain about the smell which I don't think is all that bad anyway and plus it completely dissipates in less than 30 seconds anyhow.

Thayer's is not real witch hazel. Where is ClubmanRob when you need him?

In all seriousness though, I think witch hazel is witch hazel. Just get whatever is cheap.

Thayers makes a sample pack, if you are interested in trying their various takes on WH. I own the rose, lavender, and Superhazel Thayers, but it was the Dickinson's bottle that I emptied first. I now have a bottle of store brand WH (Publix) that I'll likely empty before I finish off any of the others. I should probably give away the Superhazel, since it gives me bad Sea Breeze teenage flashbacks.
