Which way to put a Feather SS blade in?

I have not found that it matters. I'll sometimes flip the blade between shaves.
I've always put them in right from the dispenser. Just line up the holder by putting that round piece of plastic in the hole at the end of the head, pinch the head open, and slide the blade in. That's all there is to it. Then hold the edge side up and pinch the head open to allow the blade to drop into the right seating. When you release it the blade will be in the proper place until you have to remove it. Then just pinch the head open and the blade will drop out.
I read this as meaning the Feather SS straight. That's what I was responding to. Are you referring to the Feather DE blades?

I know lots of you gents love Feathers, but I prefer to insert them directly into the rubbish bin.

Are you referring to the DEs or the disposable straight razor blades? Either way, I couldn't disagree more. They're both super smooth and sharp, and thankfully the SS blade gives more shaves than the DE variety.
It would be a lot easier and cheaper to just not buy them in the first place.
