Which vintage Gillette to choose

Either an old type single ring (thick or thin cap) or an old type ball-end will give you plenty of efficiency and blade feel, will easily fit under your nose, and is at home shaving a day's growth or a two-month's worth of growth without clogging or breathing heavy. The old types can be used daily with a light touch, and while the Red Tip is a good all around (it's big plus is the weight and thicker handle) razor, but it can't match the old types for effortless shaving efficiency. But for my money, I'd go with any of the New Improved razors if you can find one.

You'll never know without trying them all and the best part is what you end up not liking can easily be sold on the BST knowing it will be going to a good new home.

I agree with BigJ - get both if you can. Having a choice could make each day’s shave even more enjoyable. Based on my experience one may be best for an every day shave and the other for several day’s growth.
