Which Simpson?

I can spend $50 or so and live to enjoy it. I really want to buy a Simpson to go with my other 3 brushes. I own a Semogue 1470, 830 and a Penworks TGN Finest extra stuffed 22mm-48mm 2 band. I bowl and face lather so I want a soft, dense knot with backbone. I'd like it to be 22mm or less and I like to feel it work on my face. So which one do I get?

It's a pure badger bush and I had been using a drugstore Van Der Hagen(not a bad brush at all). I am delighted with the Beaufort and commend it without hesitation. :thumbup1:

I'd also like a handle that fits nice in the hand. Any thoughts on the Commodore X1?

I had the same price range in mind but sprung for a little extra (that I couldn't necessarily afford) and went with the Duke 1 and have been thoroughly enjoy its excellent face lathering properties.

Of course, in true B&B fashion, I justified spending the extra money by telling myself it got me that much closer to the "free shipping" threshold right off the bat.

I just got an X1--had only my third shave with it about an hour ago. I can't comment on the knot yet, but the handle I can.

It isn't big, and I have seen a comment or two before that someone says it just is too small for them. I don't have large hands, so was pretty sure that wasn't going to be a problem for me and in fact would be the perfect shape/size for my intentions of working the nice best on my face for several minutes before the first pass.

My gamble paid off, and my hand fits it perfectly in at least five different comfortable working positions. It gets little love on this board, but it comfortably lets you go through several levels of aggressiveness during your beard prep. At about 45mm, you'll get a little lather on your fingers as it works out the bottom of the brush, but I can live with that.

The X1 is somewhat the twin of the Berkeley (except handle shape), which seems a little more popular around here. I think that may be because fewer folks venture out for the Commodore, yet Simpson/Vulfix themselves say the Commodore line is biggest seller in North America. The Berkeley is more traditionally cylindrical, but if your hands fit the X1 can't be beat for whipping around the face.

Ok I went with the Colonel X2L due to many recommendations. Pics when I receive! Thanks to all who helped with my desicion.
